20-Minute Play Assignment by Ken Urban, Spring 2004
The next challenge in this course is writing a short play that
has a running time of about 20 minutes (15-20 pages). You will
present this play to the class once during the next few weeks.
Then we will spend our final class meeting on revising it. During
the class you are presenting, you will assign roles to the class,
someone to read each part and someone to read stage directions.
You will need to get me the play by Wednesday afternoon so I can
get copies made. You can drop it off with my desk manager (Murray
304), or in my mailbox (Murray 101). If you cannot do this, you
will need to make 15 copies and bring them to the class.
OK, now for the challenge.
Write a play that has the following features:
Features no more than 5 characters total
Is NOT set in a room (and preferably location changes at
least ONCE during the play)
Which has at least one multivocal character
Features a moment of captioning, grafting or nouning
Has a moment where characters engage in "role-playing."
